Industrial Engineers a Presence at the UH EAA Engineers Week 2013 Program

Both industrial engineering students and alumni alike represented the industrial engineering profession in an impressive way at the University of Houston Engineering Alumni Association (UH EAA) Engineers Week 2013 Reception and Program.

Engineers Week is a nationally celebrated program that seeks to commemorate engineering influence and promote the numerous professions to persons of all ages. The UH EAA hosted the ninth annual Engineers Week Reception and Program at the UH Hilton on February 19th at 6pm. This event is a celebration of the improvements and accomplishments of admirable cougar engineers.

The Industrial Engineering Department is proud to report that industrial engineering was well represented at the program. Many deserving Industrial Engineering Students were commended for their dedication to the profession.

Cameron, a worldwide leader in flow equipment products, bestowed worthy students with Industrial Engineering Excellence Awards. Maria Sofia Nacinovich, Orlando Salemi and Tanhia Silva received this prestigious award for their notable collegiate accomplishments. This award is continuously given to students who exhibit exceptional efforts in the program.

The Houston Professional Chapter #22 of the Institute of Industrial Engineers also granted an award to another admirable industrial engineering student. Emilie Gerhart was presented with the Tom Landry IE Engineering Leadership Award for her potential to become a true industrial engineering professional.

Hewlett Packard also joined in honoring praiseworthy industrial engineering students. Hector Olvera was recognized for his scholarly merit in industrial engineering, involvement and leadership in various prominent organizations, including Program for Mastering Engineering Sciences (PROMES), Mexican American Engineering Society (MAES) and the Engineering Workshop Program by receiving an IE Engineering Leadership Award.

In addition to the student involvement, Industrial Engineering Faculty and Industrial Engineering Alumni alike were in attendance at the Engineers Week Program.

Dr. Gino Lim, the Industrial Engineering Department Chair at the Cullen College of Engineering, joined the event to represent the Industrial Engineering Department, and also to support The Department’s award recipients.

A considerable amount of UH Industrial Engineering Alumni participated in the program’s activities. Prominent IE Alumni contributed to the event by presenting awards, supporting sponsor companies, organizations and award recipients, and were also recognized for their contributions to the University of Houston Engineering Alumni Association Engineers Week 2013 Committee.
